Writer: Steven Moffat
Director: Jamie Payne
Producer: Marcus Wilson
Running Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes
Series: 7, Christmas special
Companion: Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman)
Summary: A mysterious message has called the Doctor to Trenzalore, where he finds a town called Christmas that is being attacked by many of the Doctor’s enemies. He remains in order to protect the town, spending several years, although for Clara, very little time has passed. Has the Doctor died for the last time?
Review: This is the saddest of all the regeneration episodes. Most of them are epic battles, and while there is action here, it is a much more emotional story than the previous ones. I liked how different the story was, as it was more like the fantasy aspect that Moffat introduced with his Doctor. It’s very deceptive, and you really believe this may be the end for the Doctor. I enjoyed Amy’s cameo, which was my favorite scene.
My only gripe with the story is the nude scene. I felt it was unnecessary for the Doctor to be naked, and all it did was lead to forced humor.
Continuity: Clara’s poor cooking skills are once again referenced. The Doctor acknowledges the existence of the War Doctor, calling him the “Grumpy One”. We see a memory of Amy as both a child and an adult.
Trivia: Because the girl who played Amy as a child had become older, her face is never shown to the camera.
