Tenth Doctor: Army of Ghosts/Doomsday (dual review)

army-of-ghosts

Writer: Russell T. Davies

Producer: Phil Collinson

Director: Graeme Harper

Series: 2, eps. 12 and 13

Companion: Rose Tyler (Billie Piper)

Summary: The Doctor and Rose return to modern-day London and discover an infestation of ghosts that is being investigated by Torchwood. They came through a dimensional portal. But the ghosts in reality are Cybermen, and Daleks are on the other side of the portal as well.

Review: To be honest, series 2 was not a good season.  There were quite a few bad episodes, like “Love and Monsters” and “Fear Her”, and some that weren’t bad, but not good idea, like “The Idiot’s Lantern” and “Tooth and Claw”. Fortunately, the finale made up for it, for me anyway. I enjoyed seeing the Daleks and Cybermen fighting each other. Rose Tyler got a fitting end to her arc. This was a lot of action. A great way to end an otherwise mediocre season.

Overall Review: 10/10

Continuity: Torchwood institute has an Egyptian sarcophagus–the same one that Sutek used. In “Smith and Jones”, we learn that Adeola Oshodi was Martha’s cousin. The Cybermen in this episode came from the same alternate timeline seen in “Rise of The Cybermen”.

Trivia: The Torchwood theme can be heard towards the end of part one, when the Doctor is setting up his equipment to expose the Cybermen. The earpods used by the Cybermen are the same ones they used in “Rise of the Cybermen” and “The Age of Steel”.
