Writer: Steven Moffatt
Director: Peter Boar
Producer: Marcus Wilson
Companion: Amy Pond (Karen Gillan), Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill), and River Song (Alex Kingston)
Series: 6, ep 7
Summary: Learning what has happened to Amy and her unborn daughter, the Doctor brings the cavalry to her rescue at a place called Demons Run. This episode introduces Jenny, Vastra, and Strax, collectively known as the Paternoster Gang.
Review: After the previous episode, I knew something awesome was on the horizon, and boy this episode delivered! Lots of action, but the plot threads were a bit confusing. Moffatt was trying to pull the same thing Davies pulled with “The Stolen Earth”, but it seemed overtly ambitious. Even with that small flaw, I was able to overlook things and just soak it all in for the second half of series 6.
Overall Review: 8/10
Continuity: The Doctor says one of the Tenth Doctor’s catchphrases, “I’m so sorry.” Rory wears his centurion armor that he war in “The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang”. River Song mentioned in “Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead” that the Doctor could make armies turn and run, which happens here. The Doctor mentions the rebooting of the universe in “The Big Bang”. The Church from “Time of the Angels/Flesh and Stone” make their second appearance. One of the spitfires is from “Victory of the Daleks”. Vashta is descended from the Silurians the Doctor met in “The Hungry Earth”. The Doctor is called the “great warrior”, perhaps another reference to the War Doctor.
