Writer: Gareth Roberts
Director: Steve Hughes
Producer: Denise Paul
Series: 6, episode 12
Companion: Craig Owens (James Corden)
Summary: The Doctor checks in on Craig Owens, who now has a baby. He claims this is his “farewell tour”. He notices the lights are flickering and he doesn’t like what his sonic screwdriver is scanning. He then discovers the Cybermen have invaded.
Review: I wasn’t fond of “The Lodger”, where Craig makes his first appearance, so I thought I wasn’t going to like this story when I saw him. I was wrong. The Doctor was amusing, and I still love the scene where he tells Craig that his newborn son wants to be called “Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All.” (yet another world-famous meme in Doctor Who.) It was great to see the Cybermats return. I wouldn’t say this was one of the best stories ever, but it’s not a bad story for Gareth Roberts to go out on.
Overall Review: 7/10
Continuity: The Doctor says that he speaks baby, which was revealed in “A Good Man Goes to War”. We see a poster with Amy on it, a reference to her modeling career. This is the second time the Doctor has gone on a “farewell tour”, with the first being “The End of Time”. This is the first time the Cybermat have appeared in Doctor Who since “Return of the Cybermen”.
Trivia: This was Gareth Roberts’s last story for Doctor Who.
