And once again, the Doctor will have to say goodbye.

The cubes eventually start doing random things, sometimes dangerous things like cutting people. He eventually learns that they are an alien invasion.

The Doctor is concerned because he doesn’t see any colonists, just the robots. He discovers the robots can read moods and act hostile when you’re not happy. He also discovers that they are called the Vardy and are everywhere, in fact, they can travel by dust cloud and are the colony itself.

The townspeople try to throw him out when he admits to being an alien. That’s when he learns about Kahler-Jex, an alien who’s been hiding out in the town, and also gave them streetlamps, powered by his ship’s generator. He also learns that a cybernetic gunslinger has targeted Kahler-Jex. The Doctor must decide whether to let Kahler-Jex live, or die for interfering with the laws of time.

The Doctor wakes up and steals a horse from a stagecoach, with the Gang and Clara in pursuit. Someone has been incinerating people (and the T-Rex), and this is the kind of thing The Doctor investigates. The Clockwork Droids from “The Girl in the Fireplace” are back. And a mysterious woman watches the events unfold.
